Cattle Restraint Methods

Task Description


Students will

  • Watch the linked video on “Cattle Restraint Methods” and complete the guided notes sheet.
  • Film themselves explaining and demonstrating two of the cattle restraint methods.


Note: For this task, students may use a stuffed animal that they have at home.

Large Animal Science

  1. Demonstrate in a live setting or in a presentation the ability to follow procedures precisely, attending to special cases or exceptions noted in appropriate materials, and apply them to the following areas:
    1. Animal restraint and handling
    2. Techniques for transportation
    3. Appropriate use of chemicals (such as pesticide, fungicide, disinfectants)
    4. Differentiate between effective methods for handling large animals and methods proven to be less effective.

Extending Understandings

Upon successful completion of these tasks' students will demonstrate the ability to:

  1. Identify restraint methods to restrain cattle
  2. Explain the specific procedure to execute each restraint method safely.
  3. Demonstrate two different restraint methods with a narrative step-by-step process for safe application.

To move students towards deeper understanding, they should be given opportunities to:

  • Compare and contrast the different types of restraint methods for a given health care treatment.
