Basic Photography

Task Description

Standards

In this task, students will:

  • watch a video on photography exposure basics and complete the video guide to assess comprehension.
  • demonstrate comprehension by finding or taking a digital image and film themselves describing white balance, depth of field shutter speed, ISO, and aperture.

Standard 17: Demonstrate basic techniques to adjust camera settings and operate a camera to capture digital images. Define and explain white balance, depth of field, and shutter speed; demonstrate procedures for properly adjusting each for a particular scene. Apply the principles of design and the rules of composition to capture photographs.

TASK GUIDES

This activity will require students to apply what they learned during the lesson and video on photography basics to an activity.

 

Photography Exposure Basics Activity

  1. Students will watch the You Tube video, “ISO, Shutter Speed and Aperture Explained” and complete the accompanying worksheet.
  2. Students will take or find on the internet a digital image and describe white balance, depth of field, and shutter speed.

 

Photography Exposure Basics Activity

  1. Students will use their camera to take a digital image. If the student does not have a camera, they may use the internet to find a digital image.
  2. The student must video themselves explaining white balance, depth of field, shutter speed, ISO and aperture in their chosen photo.
  3. Once completed the student will submit their videos to their teacher. The teacher will make them available for viewing for the entire class.
