Task Description

Standards

In this task, students will:

  • create a logo for a mock company;
  • pitch their logo to their class.

Standard 16: Examine a list of well-known company logos to create a list of key characteristics that influence a logo’s effectiveness. Compare the list with other resources such as textbooks and design journal, evaluating the credibility of each source. Drawing on research, plan and create an effective logo for a given mock company. Appraise the effectiveness of the resulting logo design as well as the designs of peers based on the criteria generated from the prior research.

TASK GUIDES

This activity will require students to apply what they learned during their research of logo effectiveness from the previous lesson to a hands-on activity.

Logo Task

  1. The teacher will share the mock company scenario with students (below).
  2. The students will use the logo maker to create a logo for the mock company. An instructional video on how to use to logo maker is available on the website.
  3. Using a predetermined platform, the students will present their logo to the class explaining its effectiveness.

Logo Mock Scenario

Mrs. Cowan has contracted your services to design the logo for her meal prep company Beez Chicks. She wants the logo to be memorable, communicate the essence of her brand, and stand the test of time. Here are a few details about her company that she wants you to remember when creating her design. Beez Chicks provides a healthier option to familiar home favorites. It does not use pork products. It uses only fresh not frozen foods; and the meals are portioned controlled, with an emphasis on low carbohydrates and high protein. Using this information create a logo that will best represent/symbolize Mrs. Cowan’s brand.

Logo Pitch

  • Each student will be given three minutes to present their logo option for Beez Chicks to their class.
  • Students must answer the following questions during their presentation
  1. What does this logo communicate about the brand?
  2. What do you think people will remember most about your logo?
  3. How will this logo stand the test of time?
