Weekly Topics

The focus of this week’s instruction is to strengthen writing skills by:

  • Using key details to write a summary
  • Using key details from a text to carry on the story that was read
  • Comparing and Contrasting similarities and differences two different kinds of people
  • Explaining how towns developed
  • Explaining the importance of land to serfs

Lesson Overviews

  • LESSON 1: Students will write a summary using key details about how the Roman Empire changed in Europe during the Middle Ages.  Students will work individually and collaboratively to decide on the most relevant information that is necessary in their summaries. 
  • LESSON 2: Students will write a narrative that demonstrates an understanding of the life of a serf or lord during the Middle Ages.  Students will work individually and collaboratively to “read like a historian” in order to learn what life was like for serfs and lords
  • LESSON 3: Students will write a paragraph comparing and contrasting knights to professional baseball players. 
  • LESSON 4: Students will write a paragraph that explains how towns developed during the Middle Ages.  Students will work individually and collaboratively to decide on the most relevant information that is necessary in their paragraphs.
  • LESSON 5: Students will learn more about serfs (or also sometimes called peasants) and explain how they lived and used the land to survive.  Students will work individually and collaboratively to decide on the most relevant information that is necessary in their explanatory writing.
