Weekly Topics

The focus of this week’s instruction is to strengthen writing skills by:

  1. Writing an interview speech to demonstrate their knowledge of the basic history of electricity and the components of a simple electrical circuit.
  2. Writing plan for a presentation to demonstrate their knowledge of the history of the telephone.
  3. Writing a newspaper article describing the unveiling of the new lightbulb by Thomas Edison.
  4. Writing a persuasive letter to demonstrate their knowledge of electromagnetic waves as well as Marconi’s idea to use them to carry wireless messages.
  5. Creating a timeline to demonstrate their knowledge of Guglielmo Marconi and the history of the wireless communication.

Lesson Overviews

  1. Students will use Electrifying Personalities to understand the history behind and the basic components of electricity with a focus on how the use of electricity has changed lives since its discovery.
  2. Students will use Electrifying Personalities: Alexander Graham Bell to learn about the history of electricity with a focus on the contributions of Alexander Graham Bell, specifically, his invention of the telephone.
  3. Students will use Electrifying Personalities: Thomas Edison to learn about the history of electricity with a focus on the contributions of Thomas Edison, specifically, his invention of the lightbulb.
  4. Students will use Electrifying Personalities: Guglielmo Marconi to learn about the history of electricity with a focus on the early life of Guglielmo Marconi, specifically, his scientific explorations concerning electromagnetic waves and their role in the development of a wireless communication system.
  5. Students will use Electrifying Personalities: Guglielmo Marconi to learn about the history of electricity with a focus on the contributions of Guglielmo Marconi, specifically, his invention of a wireless communication system.
