 The focus of this week’s instruction is to

  • understand the body is a network of systems 
  • describe the main body systems and their functions
  • explain good health is achieved through proper diet, exercise, and care of body systems
  • learn germs cause disease and infection but prevention is possible

Lesson Overviews

  • LESSON 6: In this lesson, students will Identify the nervous system, recall basic facts about the nervous system, and identify the brain as the body’s control center.
  • LESSON 7: In this lesson, students will explain that germs can cause disease in the body, explain the importance of vaccination in preventing disease, identify Edward Jenner as the man who developed the first vaccine, and identify Louis Pasteur as the man who discovered pasteurization.
  • LESSON 8: In this lesson, students will explain the importance of exercise, cleanliness, a balanced diet, and rest for bodily health, explain the importance of regular checkups,  and explain the importance of vaccination in preventing disease.
  • LESSON 9: In this lesson, students will explain the importance of a balanced diet, explain that the food pyramid is one way to depict a balanced diet, and identify the component food groups in a balanced diet.
  • LESSON 10: In this lesson students will explain that the human body is a network of systems, identify five body systems: skeletal, muscular, digestive, circulatory, and nervous, explain the importance of exercise, cleanliness, a balanced diet, and rest for bodily health.

Lesson Overviews

  • LESSON 1: In this lesson, students will complete a  vowel code review, a review of the sound /oo/,  a spelling activity, and will participate in a whole group reading of “King Log and King Crane.”
  • LESSON 2: In this lesson, students will complete a tricky word review,  vowel code review, a review of the sound /oo/,  and a spelling activity.
  • LESSON 3: In this lesson, students will complete a vowel code review, a review of the sound /ou/,  a spelling activity, and participate in a small group reading of “The Two Mules”.
  • LESSON 4: In this lesson, students will complete a vowel code review, a review of the sound /oi/,  a spelling activity, and participate in a small group reading of “The Bag of Coins”.
  • LESSON 5: In this lesson, students will complete a vowel code review, a review of the sound /aw/,  a spelling activity, and participate in a reading review.
