The focus of this week’s instruction is to understand the concepts of the life cycle of plants, pollination, and photosynthesis.

Lesson Overviews

  • LESSON 1: In this lesson, students will explain that plants are living things, describe what plants need to live and grow (food, water, air, and light), and explain that different kinds of plants grow in different environments.
  • LESSON 2: In this lesson, students will identify the root, stem, leaf, flower, and seed of a plant, explain that roots anchor the plant and take in water and nutrients, explain that stems support the plant and carry water and nutrients to the various parts of the plant, and explain that the plant makes its own food in its leaves.
  • LESSON 3: In this lesson, students will explain that seeds are the beginning of new plants and explain the basic life cycle of plants.
  • LESSON 4: In this lesson, students will Identify the parts of specific plants that are eaten by people, explain that seeds are the beginning of new turnip plants, and explain the basic life cycle of a turnip plant.
  • LESSON 5: In this lesson, students will identify the petals on a flower, describe how bees collect nectar and pollen, describe how bees make and use honey, and describe the important role bees play in plant pollination.

Lesson Overviews

  • LESSON 1: In this lesson, students will complete a short vowel sounds and sound/spelling review, a chaining review, and a letter/sound spelling review in small groups.
  • LESSON 2: In this lesson, students will complete a short vowel sounds and sound/spelling review, a review of the /y/ sound using riddles, draw a picture of the lowercase ‘y’, and participate in a small group activity.
  • LESSON 3: In this lesson, students will complete a short vowel sounds and sound/spelling review, a review of the /k/ sound, draw a picture of the lowercase ‘k’, a chaining review, and word sort.
  • LESSON 4: In this lesson, students will complete a short vowel sounds and sound/spelling review, a stomp and spell review game, letter writing practice, and a small group activity. 
  • LESSON 5: In this lesson, students will complete a short vowel sounds and sound/spelling review, a singing of the Alphabet Song, a chaining activity, listen to the story “Kit and Stan”, and participate in  a small group activity.
