Welcome to Course 1, Distance Learning for Teachers!

Thank you for jumping in and pushing yourself to learn and grow!

Course Rationale

With the COVID-19 pandemic, teachers and students quickly adapted to distance learning, but it brought unique challenges. Digital and other distance learning methods will continue to be important for our teachers and students as we look ahead to the future, particularly should digital instruction continue to be necessary. This course is meant to stamp the best practices and build knowledge and understanding around distance learning.

What the course is not

This course does not provide any mandates or requirements. It is a resource only. The content is not specific to particular curricula or any specific district policies. This content is meant to build knowledge on broadly applicable best practices that are agnostic of curricula and policy.

Course Content and Organization

This course will include 3 modules or “binders

  1. Preparing my Remote Classroom
  2. Whole Child Considerations
  3. High Quality Instructional Materials

Each binder has a different number of short topics or resources on related content. Each of these resources includes tools you can download and edit to fit your specific settings and needs.

The resources are short sessions and self-paced. It can be viewed in order, and is planned so that each resource builds. That said, jumping around, or only doing certain topics, works too.

Most of the learning happens through independent reading, reflecting, and planning. The videos will tell you when to pause, what to read, and what to be focused on. All of the tools are Word or Excel documents so that you can edit them and make them your own. The videos are just a guide to your learning. The key content is included in the supplemental tools. This PD is an example of content delivery in an asynchronous way.
